Tapahtumajärjestelmissä, often translated as "event systems" or "event-driven systems" in English, refers to a software architecture and design pattern where the flow of information and control is determined by the occurrence of events. Instead of direct, synchronous communication between components, systems react to events that are broadcast or published by other components. This approach decouples producers of events from consumers of events, allowing for greater flexibility, scalability, and resilience.

In an event system, components known as event producers generate events when a specific change or action occurs. These events are then published to an event bus or message broker. Other components, known as event consumers, subscribe to specific types of events. When an event of interest is published, the event bus delivers it to all subscribed consumers. Consumers then process the event independently, potentially triggering further actions or producing new events.

Key benefits of event-driven architecture include loose coupling between components, which makes the system easier to modify and extend. It also supports asynchronous communication, meaning that producers and consumers do not need to be available at the same time. This can lead to improved performance and responsiveness. Event systems are widely used in microservices architectures, real-time data processing, IoT applications, and complex distributed systems where scalability and fault tolerance are crucial. The design promotes a reactive and adaptable system that can respond dynamically to changes.
