Taminlangan

Taminlangan is a rural locality classified as a village within the Khorezm Region of Uzbekistan. It is situated in the Qarshi district, approximately 12 kilometres north of the district centre Qarshi. The settlement lies on the lower floodplain of the Amu Darya, an area characterised by alluvial soils that support the region’s agricultural activities. According to the 2016 census, Taminlangan had an estimated population of roughly 3,800 residents, a figure that reflects a slight decline in the past decade due to migration towards urban centres.

The economy of Taminlangan is predominantly agrarian. The principal crops cultivated in the area include cotton, wheat, and various fruits such as melons and grapes. In addition, livestock breeding—particularly sheep and cattle—plays a significant role in the village’s subsistence and market trade. Small-scale irrigation projects, installed under the Soviet era, continue to supply water to the crop fields, although recent initiatives for water management have been introduced to cope with changing climate conditions.

Infrastructure in Taminlangan includes a primary school, a health centre providing basic medical services, and a community hall that hosts cultural and administrative gatherings. The village is connected to the district centre by a paved road, facilitating access to larger markets and administrative services. Public transport is available in the form of hourly bus services, linking residents to Qarshi and nearby urban areas.

Etymologically, the name Taminlangan derives from the Uzbek verb “tamin qilmoq,” meaning “to provide” or “to supply.” The name is believed to reflect the village’s historical association with provisioning food and supplies during periods of regional economic development. The settlement maintains the traditional customs of the Uzbek people while gradually integrating modern amenities that support its small but resilient community.
