Taines

Taines is a fictional island nation created for world-building and narrative purposes. It is described as a small archipelago located in the southeastern waters of the imaginary region of Eldara, south of the continent of Noravia.

The archipelago centers on a main island, Velin, surrounded by several smaller islets. The terrain ranges from forested coastlines to volcanic highlands, and the climate is maritime with distinct wet and dry seasons.

Taines has a history of maritime settlement and external influence during the early modern period. It achieved independence in 1823 and has since operated as a parliamentary republic with a constitution governing national affairs.

The government features a unicameral legislature, with a president serving as largely ceremonial head of state and a prime minister as head of government. Elections are held every five years, and power is distributed among several political parties.

The economy is mixed and export-oriented, emphasizing sustainable fisheries, cocoa and tropical fruits, ecotourism, and light manufacturing. The taine is the unit of currency, and the country maintains open trade policies with its neighbors.

The population is diverse, with Tainean as the national language alongside English; residents practice a range of religious and secular beliefs. Education and health care are publicly funded, supporting a relatively high literacy rate.

Cultural life centers on maritime heritage, storytelling, music, and crafts, with annual festivals tied to the sea and harvest cycles.

The nation protects significant natural areas, especially coral reefs and mangrove ecosystems, as part of a wider conservation program. The capital and largest city is Listara.
