Tahkekatalüütid, commonly referred to as solid catalysts, are substances that increase the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed in the process and are in a different phase than the reactants and products. Typically, these catalysts are solids, while the reactants and products are gases or liquids. This phase difference is crucial for their function, as it allows for a distinct interface where the catalytic activity occurs.

The mechanism of action for tahkekatalüütid generally involves adsorption of reactants onto the catalyst's surface. This adsorption weakens the bonds within the reactant molecules, making them more susceptible to chemical transformation.
