Tachyméterek, or tachometers, are instruments used to measure the rotational speed of a shaft or disk. This measurement is typically expressed in revolutions per minute (RPM). Tachometers are essential in a wide variety of applications, from automotive dashboards to industrial machinery and scientific research.

The principle behind tachometer operation varies depending on the type. Mechanical tachometers often use a centrifugal governor system, where spinning weights move outwards with increasing speed, indicating the RPM on a dial. Electrical tachometers are more common today and can operate on several principles. Magnetic tachometers detect passing magnets or teeth on a rotating gear, generating electrical pulses that are counted. Optical tachometers use a light source and a sensor to detect a reflective marker on the rotating object. The frequency of the reflected light pulses corresponds to the rotational speed. Non-contact tachometers are particularly useful for measuring the speed of moving or inaccessible parts without physical connection.

Automotive tachometers are a familiar example, allowing drivers to monitor engine speed. In industry, they are crucial for ensuring machinery operates within safe and efficient parameters, diagnosing problems, and maintaining equipment.
