Taany

Taany is a commune in the Charente-Maritime department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France. It is located approximately 10 kilometers northwest of the city of Matha, which serves as the commune's local prefecture.

The commune covers a total surface area of 22.01 square kilometers and had a population of 176 inhabitants at the last available census in 2015. The geography of Taany can be characterized as hilly, with a terrain that is dominated by forests, fields, and pastures.

The climate of Taany, like the surrounding areas in Charente-Maritime, is classified as oceanic, with cool and wet winters, and mild and wet summers. The precipitation levels are high throughout the year, with most months receiving more than 60 millimeters of rainfall on average.

Prior to the French Revolution, the commune of Taany was part of the historical province known as Saintonge. Since 1793, it has been an independent commune and has remained a relatively isolated agricultural community.
