TOaddress

TOaddress is a term used in digital messaging to denote the recipient address to which a message or notification is delivered. It is often encountered in documentation, software configuration, and integration scenarios where systems need to specify where content should be sent. The concept is closely related to the “To” field in communications, but its exact meaning can vary by context.

In email, the To header lists one or more recipient addresses, typically in the form of an email address or a name and address pair such as Display Name <[email protected]>. The actual delivery path is governed by the envelope recipient address used by the mail transfer agent, which may differ from what is shown in the header. In programming and API usage, toAddress or TOaddress commonly refers to the field that stores the destination address for sending messages, notifications, or alerts.

Validation and formatting depend on context. For email, a to-address should conform to standard email address syntax and may require additional validation to prevent header injection. For other channels, such as SMS or push notifications, the to-address might be an E.164 phone number or a device identifier, respectively.

Privacy and security considerations include protecting recipient information, validating input to prevent injection attacks, and ensuring that recipients have opted in to receive communications. Variants of the concept include To, Cc, and Bcc fields in email, as well as destination addresses in messaging templates and automation workflows.
