TNTérték

TNTérték is a Hungarian term that translates to "TNT equivalent" in English. It is a unit of measurement used to express the energy released by an explosion, specifically in terms of the amount of trinitrotoluene (TNT) that would release the same amount of energy. This allows for a standardized comparison of the destructive potential of various explosives and explosive events.

The TNT equivalent is determined by calculating the total energy released during an explosion and then dividing it by the energy released by one unit mass of TNT. For example, if an event releases 100 megajoules of energy, and TNT releases approximately 4.2 megajoules per kilogram, the TNT equivalent would be approximately 23.8 kilograms of TNT. This unit is commonly used in fields such as seismology to describe the magnitude of seismic events, in military contexts to compare the power of different weapons, and in disaster analysis to quantify the impact of explosions.
