TIFFformaadis, also known as TIFF, is a flexible and widely used file format for storing raster graphics images. TIFF stands for Tagged Image File Format. It was originally developed by Aldus Corporation in the late 1980s. The primary advantage of TIFF is its ability to store images with high fidelity, supporting a wide range of color depths and compression methods.

TIFF files can store uncompressed images, which are ideal for archival purposes and professional image editing as they retain all original data. However, uncompressed TIFFs can result in very large file sizes. To mitigate this, TIFF supports various lossless compression algorithms like LZW and ZIP, which reduce file size without sacrificing image quality. It also supports lossy compression, though this is less common for professional use.

The format is highly adaptable, allowing for the storage of different color spaces, including grayscale, RGB, CMYK, and even indexed color. TIFF also has the capability to store multiple pages or frames within a single file, making it suitable for documents or image sequences. Its robust nature and support for high-quality image data have made it a standard in desktop publishing, scanning, and professional photography. While not ideal for web use due to its potential file size, TIFF remains a critical format for image manipulation and preservation.
