Sõnumijärjekordadele, commonly referred to as message queues, are a fundamental component in modern software architecture, particularly in distributed systems. They act as intermediaries that allow different parts of an application, or entirely separate applications, to communicate asynchronously. Instead of sending a message directly to its intended recipient and waiting for a response, a sender places the message into a queue. The recipient then retrieves messages from the queue at its own pace.

This asynchronous communication pattern offers several advantages. It decouples senders and receivers, meaning they do not need to be available at the same time. If a recipient system is temporarily down, messages will simply wait in the queue until it becomes available again, preventing data loss and improving system resilience. Message queues also help in managing workloads. They can buffer requests during periods of high traffic, allowing downstream systems to process them at a manageable rate and preventing them from being overwhelmed.

Furthermore, message queues facilitate scalability. By distributing messages across multiple consumers, processing power can be scaled independently of the producers. They are essential for building microservices architectures, enabling event-driven communication between independent services. Common use cases include background job processing, real-time data streaming, and inter-application communication. Examples of message queue technologies include RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, and Amazon SQS.
