Sætningstræ

Sætningstræ, often translated as "sentence tree" or "parse tree" in English, is a concept used in linguistics and computer science to represent the syntactic structure of a sentence. It is a hierarchical diagram that illustrates how words are grouped into phrases and how these phrases combine to form a complete sentence.

The tree structure typically begins with a root node representing the entire sentence. This root node branches out into major constituents, usually a noun phrase (NP) and a verb phrase (VP). These constituents are further subdivided into smaller phrases or individual words, representing their grammatical roles and relationships. For example, a noun phrase might consist of a determiner and a noun, while a verb phrase could include a verb and its object, which might itself be another noun phrase.

The leaves of the sætningstræ are the individual words of the sentence, called terminal nodes. The internal nodes represent the non-terminal constituents, such as phrases and clauses. The relationships shown in the tree reflect grammatical rules and dependencies, indicating which parts of the sentence modify or depend on others.
