Säteilymekanismit, known in English as radiation mechanisms, refers to the processes by which energy is emitted or absorbed in the form of electromagnetic radiation. This phenomenon is fundamental to understanding many physical processes across various scientific disciplines, from astrophysics to everyday life.

In physics, radiation mechanisms are crucial for describing the behavior of light, heat, and other forms of electromagnetic waves. One primary mechanism is thermal radiation, where objects emit electromagnetic radiation due to their temperature. The hotter an object, the more intense and shorter the wavelength of the radiation emitted. Blackbody radiation is an idealized model that describes this emission perfectly.

Another significant mechanism is atomic or molecular radiation. When atoms or molecules absorb energy, their electrons can transition to higher energy levels. As they return to lower energy states, they emit photons, which are particles of light. This process is responsible for the characteristic spectral lines observed from elements and molecules, a key tool in spectroscopy.

Furthermore, charged particles in motion also generate radiation. For instance, when charged particles are accelerated, they emit synchrotron radiation. Bremsstrahlung, or "braking radiation," occurs when a charged particle is decelerated, often by interacting with another charged particle. These mechanisms are important in particle physics and astrophysics.
