Säteilyhygienian, often translated as radiation hygiene or radiation protection, is a field concerned with minimizing the harmful effects of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on human health and the environment. It encompasses the principles, practices, and regulations designed to ensure that exposure to radiation is kept as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) while still allowing for beneficial uses of radiation in medicine, industry, and research.
