Sähkönjohtava

Sähkönjohtava is a Finnish term that translates to "electrically conductive" in English. It refers to a material's ability to allow electric current to flow through it. This property is fundamental in the field of electricity and electronics, as conductive materials are essential for creating electrical circuits.

The conductivity of a material is determined by the presence and mobility of charge carriers, which are typically electrons. In conductors like metals, a large number of free electrons are available to move and carry charge. Insulators, on the other hand, have very few free charge carriers and thus resist the flow of electricity. Semiconductors fall in between conductors and insulators, with their conductivity being controllable under certain conditions.

Metals such as copper, silver, and gold are excellent electrical conductors due to their atomic structure. Graphite, a form of carbon, is also a good conductor. Some solutions containing ions, like saltwater, can also conduct electricity. The measurement of electrical conductivity is often expressed in units of siemens per meter (S/m).
