Sähkömagnetostrictive

Sähkömagnetostrictive is a term used to describe a phenomenon related to materials that exhibit magnetostriction when subjected to an electric field, or conversely, piezoelectricity when subjected to a magnetic field. This coupling of magnetic and electric properties in certain materials allows for the conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy and vice versa, through magnetic and electric means.

The underlying principle involves the rearrangement of magnetic domains within a material in response to an applied electric field. This rearrangement can lead to changes in the material's dimensions, which is the characteristic of magnetostriction. Conversely, a magnetic field can induce a charge separation within the material, resulting in a piezoelectric effect.

Materials displaying this dual behavior are often referred to as multiferroic or electro-magnetostrictive materials.
