Szárazságérzet
Szárazságérzet refers to the subjective sensation of dryness in the mouth. This feeling can stem from a variety of causes, both physiological and psychological. Physiologically, insufficient fluid intake is a primary reason for dry mouth. Dehydration, whether due to intense physical activity, hot weather, or inadequate consumption of water, directly reduces saliva production. Certain medications, particularly those used to treat allergies, depression, anxiety, and high blood pressure, are also known to cause dry mouth as a side effect. Medical conditions such as Sjögren's syndrome, a chronic autoimmune disease, diabetes, and nerve damage affecting the salivary glands can also lead to persistent dry mouth. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol can also contribute to a temporary or chronic feeling of dryness. Psychologically, stress and anxiety can trigger a dry mouth sensation, often related to the body's "fight or flight" response which can reduce saliva flow. The sensation of dry mouth can range from mild discomfort to severe irritation, and in some cases, can lead to difficulties with chewing, swallowing, speaking, and tasting. It can also increase the risk of dental problems like cavities and gum disease due to reduced saliva's protective functions.
