Szuperlativus

Szuperlativus is the Hungarian term for the superlative degree of adjectives and adverbs. It is used to express the highest degree of a quality possessed by one or more items in a comparison. In Hungarian grammar, the superlative is typically formed by adding the prefix "leg-" to the adjective or adverb. For example, "nagy" means "big," and "legnagyobb" means "biggest." Similarly, "gyors" means "fast," and "leggyorsabb" means "fastest."

The superlative form can also be used with the definite article "a" or "az" before it, especially when referring to a specific item that possesses the highest degree of a quality within a defined group. For instance, "Péter a legmagasabb a fiúk között" translates to "Peter is the tallest among the boys."

In some instances, when comparing more than two items, the superlative can be accompanied by the word "közül," meaning "among" or "out of," to specify the group being considered. For example, "Ez a legszebb virág a kertünk közül" means "This is the most beautiful flower out of our garden." The superlative construction in Hungarian is a fundamental aspect of expressing comparisons and emphasizing the extreme end of a spectrum of qualities.
