Syöttöimpedanssiin is a Finnish term that translates to "input impedance" in English. It refers to the opposition that a circuit presents to the input current. This opposition is not just resistance but also includes reactance, which is the opposition to changes in current or voltage due to capacitance and inductance. In simpler terms, it's how much the input of a device or circuit "pushes back" against the signal trying to enter it.

Understanding input impedance is crucial in electronic circuit design. When connecting different electronic components, their input and output impedances must be considered to ensure efficient signal transfer and to avoid signal reflections or distortions. For instance, if the output impedance of one component is significantly different from the input impedance of the next component, a mismatch occurs. This mismatch can lead to a loss of signal power, where not all the signal energy from the output is successfully transferred to the input.

Ideal input impedance varies depending on the application. For signal sources, a low input impedance is often desired to draw as much current as possible.
