Svømmestiler

Svømmestiler, or swimming strokes, refer to the specific ways a person propels themselves through water. Each style has unique movements and techniques that affect speed, efficiency, and energy expenditure. The most common competitive swimming strokes are freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

Freestyle, often colloquially referred to as the crawl, is characterized by a continuous alternating arm action and a flutter kick. It is generally the fastest of the four competitive strokes.

Backstroke is swum on the back, with an alternating arm motion and a flutter kick similar to freestyle. The body remains relatively flat on the water's surface.

Breaststroke is the slowest of the competitive strokes. It involves a simultaneous arm pull and a frog-like leg kick, with a recovery phase where the arms and legs are brought forward under the water.

Butterfly is known for its powerful, simultaneous arm movements and a dolphin kick, where both legs move up and down together. It is a physically demanding stroke.

Beyond these competitive styles, there are other forms of swimming, such as sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and various survival strokes, which prioritize different aspects like endurance or ease of breathing over speed. The choice of stroke can depend on the purpose of swimming, whether for sport, exercise, or survival.
