The related noun suuttomuus or suvuttomuus conveys the lack of lineage, while suvuttoman functions as a modifying form used before a noun (for example, suvuttoman henkilön would mean “of a person without lineage”). Because it is relatively rare, the exact usage and inflection can vary by text.

Usage and context: In historical materials, “suvuttoman” may describe individuals who could not be traced to a particular family, who did not bear a traditional surname, or whose genealogical records were incomplete or lost. In modern Finland, more commonplace expressions such as “ilman sukunimeä” (without a surname) or “sukunimeä vailla” are usually preferred.
