The process of determining design loads involves consulting relevant building codes, standards, and engineering principles. These codes often specify minimum load requirements based on the intended use and location of the structure. Engineers must also account for potential combinations of loads that might occur simultaneously, as these combinations can sometimes produce the most critical stress conditions. For instance, a structure might experience both wind and snow loads concurrently during a storm. Accurate calculation and application of these design loads are fundamental to preventing structural failure and ensuring public safety.
