Surabayas

Surabayas is a term used to refer to the residents of Surabaya, the capital city of East Java, Indonesia, or to things associated with the city. The form appears in English-language writing as a plural or collective label; in Indonesian, the usual demonym is warga Surabaya or orang Surabaya.

Geography and history: Surabaya lies on the northern coast of East Java along the Madura Strait, at the delta of the Brantas River. It developed as a major trading port from the medieval period and grew into Indonesia's second-largest city in terms of population and a leading economic center in the eastern region. The name Surabaya is commonly linked to a local legend about a shark (sura) and a crocodile (baya), though other etymologies exist.

Economy and infrastructure: The Port of Tanjung Perak serves as Surabaya's principal seaport and an important node for regional shipping. The city is a hub for manufacturing, distribution, finance, and services.
