Suojajohtimiin

Suojajohtimiin, often translated as protective earth conductors or grounding conductors, are a critical component of electrical safety systems in many countries. Their primary function is to connect non-current-carrying metal parts of electrical equipment to the earth. This connection ensures that if a fault occurs, such as a live wire touching the metal casing, the electricity flows to the ground instead of through a person who might touch the casing.

The conductor is typically colored green and yellow in many international standards, though specific color codes can vary by region. In a properly functioning system, the protective earth conductor carries no current under normal operating conditions. This low resistance allows a large current to flow, which is sufficient to trip a protective device like a circuit breaker or fuse, thereby disconnecting the power supply and preventing electric shock.
