Sundstrand

Sundstrand was an American manufacturing company that produced a variety of mechanical and aerospace components. Founded in 1914 by Oswald Sundstrand, the company initially focused on machine tools, particularly adding attachments for lathes. Over the decades, Sundstrand diversified its product lines significantly. They became a major player in the aerospace industry, manufacturing components for aircraft, including fuel control systems, constant speed drives, and auxiliary power units.

The company also developed a strong presence in hydraulics, producing pumps, motors, and transmissions for industrial and mobile equipment. In the automotive sector, Sundstrand was known for its continuously variable transmissions (CVTs). Throughout its history, Sundstrand experienced several mergers and acquisitions. In 2000, it merged with AlliedSignal to form AlliedSignal Aerospace, which was subsequently acquired by Honeywell International Inc. in 1999. While the Sundstrand name is no longer used as a primary corporate brand, its legacy continues through the technologies and product lines integrated into Honeywell's aerospace and defense businesses. The company was headquartered in Rockford, Illinois, for much of its operational existence.
