Subarktikaline

Subarktikaline is a term sometimes used to describe conditions or environments that are just below the threshold of what is considered arctic. It is not a precisely defined scientific term and can be applied in various contexts, often relating to climate, geography, or ecology. Generally, it suggests an area that experiences characteristics similar to the arctic but is not fully within the arctic zone.

In climatology, subarktikaline might refer to regions with very cold winters and short, cool summers, but where temperatures do not consistently remain below freezing for the entire year or where the permafrost, if present, is discontinuous. Geographically, it could describe areas bordering the arctic circle or experiencing arctic-like weather patterns but lying south of the established arctic boundaries.
