Subakromiaalinen

Subakromiaalinen refers to the anatomical space located beneath the acromion, which is the bony projection from the shoulder blade. This space is a critical region within the shoulder joint, housing several important structures. Primarily, it contains the supraspinatus tendon, a part of the rotator cuff muscles, and the subacromial bursa. The bursa is a fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion, reducing friction between the rotator cuff tendons and the acromion bone during arm movements.

The subacromial space is essential for the smooth and pain-free functioning of the shoulder. Problems within this space, often referred to as subacromial impingement syndrome, can lead to significant pain and limited mobility. Impingement occurs when the structures within the subacromial space become compressed, typically during overhead activities. This compression can result from various factors, including inflammation of the bursa (subacromial bursitis), thickening of tendons, bone spurs on the acromion, or structural abnormalities of the shoulder joint.

Diagnosing issues related to the subacromial space often involves physical examination and imaging techniques such as X-rays, ultrasound, or MRI. Treatment aims to reduce inflammation, improve biomechanics, and alleviate pain, and may include rest, physical therapy, medication, or in some cases, surgical intervention to decompress the space.
