Stückzahlen

Stückzahlen is the plural form of Stückzahl and denotes the quantity of discrete units of a product or component. It refers to the number of individual items produced, purchased, or held in stock, and is commonly used in forecasts, orders, and inventories to express quantities in units rather than monetary values or weights.

In production planning and control, the Stückzahl of a production order specifies how many units should be manufactured in that run. In procurement, the Stückzahl in a purchase order indicates how many units the supplier should deliver. In inventory management, stock levels are tracked as Stückzahlen, enabling calculations of turnover, service level, and reorder points.

Stückzahlen are closely related to batch size (Losgröße). The chosen Stückzahl per run or lot affects setup and changeover costs, storage costs, and the ability to meet demand. As a result, lot-size optimization and inventory theory are used to determine appropriate Stückzahlen, with methods such as EOQ or other heuristics.

Examples: If demand is 50,000 units per month, planning may set a monthly Stückzahl of 50,000, further divided into weekly production blocks. A retailer ordering a new product may specify a Stückzahl of 10,000 units.

In modern ERP and MRP systems, Stückzahl fields drive material requirements planning, production scheduling, and reporting, linking demand forecasts to physical quantities of goods.
