Strömstötarna

Strömstötarna refers to brief, high-amplitude transients in electrical systems, typically lasting only microseconds to milliseconds. They manifest as sudden spikes in current or voltage and can occur in power distribution networks, electrical equipment, or electronic circuits. The term is used in electrical engineering and power quality discussions to describe transient disturbances that deviate from normal operating conditions.

Causes of strømstötarna include lightning-induced surges on power lines, switching operations in substations or industrial facilities, faults such as short circuits, capacitor bank switching, and rapid load changes. External electromagnetic disturbances and fault-induced transients can also trigger strømstötarna. Their occurrence is influenced by network topology, protection schemes, and insulation levels.

Effects range from nuisance tripping of circuit breakers and measurement inaccuracies to more serious damage such as insulation stress, overheating of conductors, and degradation or failure of semiconductor devices and power electronics.
