Strophomenides

Strophomenides is a genus of small, marine, bivalve mollusks belonging to the family Veneridae. The genus was first described by the French naturalist Jean-Baptiste Lamarck in 1818. Strophomenides species are characterized by their small, oval-shaped shells with a smooth, glossy surface. The shells are typically less than 2 centimeters in length and have a distinctive, slightly curved hinge line.

The genus is found in shallow marine environments, often in areas with soft, muddy substrates. Strophomenides species are filter feeders, using their siphons to draw in water and filter out food particles. They are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, with a few species also occurring in the Atlantic Ocean.
