Strengthandstiffness are fundamental mechanical properties of materials and structures, describing their response to applied forces. The measure of stiffness often used is the modulus of elasticity, or Young's modulus, in tensile or compression tests.

Although related, strength and stiffness are distinct properties. A material can be very strong but not stiff, meaning it can withstand high loads but deform significantly. Conversely, a stiff material may resist deformation but may not necessarily have high strength, leading to potential failure under extreme loads.

Both properties are influenced by material composition, microstructure, and environmental conditions.
