Strømmassesensorer

Strømmassesensorer, often called mass flow sensors, are devices used to measure the mass of a fluid (liquid or gas) passing through a pipe or duct per unit of time. Unlike volumetric flow meters, which measure the volume of fluid, strømmassesensorer directly measure the mass flow rate, making them independent of changes in temperature and pressure that can affect fluid density. This direct mass measurement is crucial in applications where precise control of mass is required.

There are several types of strømmassesensorer, with Coriolis flow meters and thermal mass flow meters being the most common. Coriolis meters operate based on the Coriolis effect, where a vibrating tube carrying the fluid experiences a twist proportional to the mass flow rate. Thermal mass flow meters typically work by heating a sensor element and measuring the amount of heat carried away by the fluid. The rate of heat transfer is directly related to the mass flow rate of the fluid.

The applications for strømmassesensorer are widespread across various industries. In the automotive industry, they are essential for engine management systems, accurately measuring the air intake to optimize fuel combustion. In the chemical and petrochemical industries, they are used for precise dosing of reactants and monitoring product streams.
