Strömavstängning

Strömavstängning, commonly referred to as a power outage or blackout, is a temporary interruption of the electrical supply to a region. These events can occur for a variety of reasons, impacting homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.

One common cause is adverse weather conditions. High winds, heavy snowfall, ice storms, and lightning strikes can damage power lines, poles, and substations, leading to widespread outages. Fallen trees are also a frequent culprit, especially during storms.

Equipment failure within the power grid is another significant factor. Transformers, circuit breakers, and other components can malfunction due to age, wear and tear, or manufacturing defects. Overload on the grid, often occurring during periods of exceptionally high demand such as heatwaves or cold snaps, can also trigger protective shutdowns to prevent more extensive damage.

Planned power outages, known as scheduled outages, are sometimes necessary for repairs, upgrades, or maintenance of the electrical infrastructure. These are typically announced in advance to affected customers.
