The Storsjöodjuret, often translated as the Great Lake Monster, is a legendary creature said to inhabit Lake Storsjön in Jämtland, Sweden. Tales of its existence have been passed down for centuries, with the earliest recorded accounts dating back to the 17th century. Descriptions of the creature vary, but it is generally depicted as a large, serpentine being with a long neck, humps along its back, and a horse-like head. Some reports also mention a dark, smooth skin and the ability to move swiftly through the water.

Numerous alleged sightings of the Storsjöodjuret have been reported over the years, contributing to its enduring folklore. These sightings have often occurred during calm weather, with witnesses describing a disturbance on the surface of the lake followed by the appearance of the creature. In 1987, a significant effort was made to find the Storsjöodjuret, involving sonar equipment and divers, but the expedition yielded no conclusive evidence. The legend of the Storsjöodjuret remains a popular aspect of local culture and tourism in the Jämtland region, attracting visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the mysterious inhabitant of Lake Storsjön.
