Stereokaamerad

Stereokaamerad, also known as stereo cameras or stereoscopic cameras, are devices designed to capture two images simultaneously from slightly different viewpoints. These two images are intended to be viewed in a way that recreates the perception of depth, similar to how human eyes work. The principle behind stereokaamerad is stereopsis, the visual phenomenon that allows humans to perceive depth and three-dimensional shapes from two slightly offset images.

A typical stereokaamera consists of two lenses positioned at a specific distance apart, mimicking the interpupillary distance of human eyes. Each lens captures an image of the same scene at the same moment. The horizontal separation between the lenses is crucial, as it provides the parallax difference needed for depth perception. The closer an object is to the camera, the greater the difference between its position in the left and right images. Conversely, distant objects will appear in very similar positions in both images.

The two captured images are then typically processed or presented to a viewer in a way that allows each eye to see only its corresponding image. This can be achieved through various methods, such as using polarized or anaglyph glasses, or through specialized displays that direct each image to the correct eye. Stereokaamerad have found applications in fields such as 3D photography, computer vision, robotics, and even early forms of cinematography to create immersive visual experiences. The effectiveness of a stereokaamera depends on factors like lens separation, image quality, and the viewer's ability to fuse the two images into a coherent three-dimensional perception.
