Stenttihoitojen
Stenttihoitojen, or stenting, is a medical procedure used to widen narrowed or blocked blood vessels. It is a common treatment for various cardiovascular conditions, most notably coronary artery disease. During the procedure, a small, expandable mesh tube called a stent is inserted into the affected artery. This stent is typically delivered via a catheter, a thin, flexible tube that is guided through an artery, often starting in the groin or arm. A balloon is usually mounted on the catheter at the site of the narrowing. Once positioned correctly, the balloon is inflated, expanding the stent and pressing it against the artery walls. This widens the vessel, restoring blood flow. After the balloon is deflated and removed, the stent remains in place, acting as a scaffold to keep the artery open. Many stents are now coated with medication that is slowly released over time to help prevent the artery from re-narrowing, a process known as restenosis. Stenttihoitojen is generally considered a minimally invasive procedure and is often performed under local anesthesia. Recovery times can vary depending on the individual and the specific procedure, but many patients can return to normal activities relatively quickly.
