Statistikon

Statistikon is a term encountered in Greek-language contexts that denotes statistics or statistical matters. In modern Greek, the standard word for the discipline is στατιστική (statistikí), while the neuter form στατιστικόν (statistikón) or the transliterated statistikon appears mainly in older or scholarly texts and can function as an adjective meaning “statistical” or as a noun, depending on context.

Etymology and usage: The form statistikon reflects a transliteration of the European terminology for statistics into Greek, rather than a native coinage. It is generally found in linguistic or bibliographic passages and is not the most common everyday term in contemporary Greek. The primary term for the field today is στατιστική, with related expressions such as στατιστικές μελέτες (“statistical studies”) and στατιστικές μεθόδοι (“statistical methods”).
