Standphase
Standphase refers to the period during walking or running where one foot is in contact with the ground. It is a crucial component of bipedal locomotion and is further divided into several sub-phases. The initial contact, also known as heel strike or foot strike, marks the beginning of the standphase. This is followed by the loading response, where the body's weight is transferred to the limb. As the individual progresses, the mid-stance phase occurs, during which the body's center of mass passes over the stance foot. Finally, the terminal stance, or heel-off, signifies the end of the standphase as the heel begins to lift off the ground in preparation for the swing phase.
