A Stakhanovite was a Soviet worker who exceeded their prescribed work quotas, often by a significant margin. The term originates from Alexei Stakhanov, a coal miner who, in August 1935, was reported to have mined 102 tons of coal in a single shift, far surpassing the norm of 7 tons.
