Stafülokokke

Stafülokokke, also known as Staphylococcus aureus, is a gram-positive bacterium that is commonly found on the skin and in the nose of many people. It is a member of the Staphylococcus genus and is one of the most common causes of bacterial infections in humans. Staphylococcus aureus is typically harmless and can be found in the nose and on the skin of up to 30% of healthy adults. However, it can cause a range of infections, including skin infections, food poisoning, and more severe conditions such as pneumonia, sepsis, and toxic shock syndrome.

Staphylococcus aureus is characterized by its ability to form clusters of cocci, which are spherical bacteria that grow in pairs or chains. It is resistant to many antibiotics, including methicillin, which is why it is often referred to as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). MRSA infections are more difficult to treat and can be life-threatening, particularly in hospitals and healthcare settings.

The bacterium can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person or contaminated surfaces. Proper hygiene practices, such as hand washing and avoiding contact with infected individuals, can help prevent the spread of Staphylococcus aureus. In cases of infection, treatment typically involves the use of antibiotics, although the choice of antibiotic may depend on the severity of the infection and the presence of antibiotic resistance.
