Sprungstelle is a German term meaning a place of jump or discontinuity. It is used in several disciplines to denote a point where a transition or change occurs abruptly, rather than gradually. In mathematics, a Sprungstelle refers to a jump discontinuity of a real-valued function. At a Sprungstelle x0, the left-hand limit and the right-hand limit exist, but they are not equal. The function value at x0 may be equal to one of the limits or may be something else; either way, the discontinuity persists.
