Sportbúvárok, also known as sport diving specialists, are individuals who engage in underwater activities for recreational or competitive purposes. The term originates from the Hungarian words "sport" meaning sport and "búvár" meaning diver. These divers typically use scuba equipment to breathe underwater, and their activities can range from underwater photography and exploration to competitive events such as free diving and sport diving contests.

The sport of scuba diving became popular in the 1930s, thanks to pioneers like Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and it has since grown into a worldwide hobby and sport. In Hungary, swimming clubs and water sport associations have established dedicated diving sections that offer training programs and support for aspiring sportbúvárok. Courses are typically organized by national diving federations and follow international standards set by organizations such as the International Swimming Federation (FINA) and the International Association for the Development of Scuba Diving (CMAS).

Sportbúvárok must master a range of skills, including underwater navigation, buoyancy control, and emergency procedures. Training usually involves both classroom instruction and practical dives, and divers must obtain certification from recognized bodies before competing.
