Sphaeridiinae
Sphaeridiinae is a subfamily of hydrophilid beetles, commonly known as hydrophilid water beetles or scavengers. These beetles are characterized by their relatively small size, often less than 5 millimeters in length, and their convex, globular bodies. The subfamily is widespread and can be found in diverse habitats worldwide, particularly in moist environments such as dung, decaying vegetation, and the muddy margins of aquatic bodies.
Adult sphaeridiine beetles are typically coprophagous or detritivorous, feeding on excrement, rotting organic matter, and algae.
The subfamily Sphaeridiinae contains numerous genera and species, with significant diversity in their specific ecological roles
