Spektralregion

Spektralregion is a term used in spectroscopy and remote sensing to denote a defined portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in which the interaction of light with matter yields reliable and interpretable spectral signatures. It serves as a framework for organizing wavelengths to optimize detection, identification, and quantification of materials.

Because the boundaries of a spektralregion depend on the application and instrument, common instantiations cover ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared bands, roughly from 200 nanometers to 2500 nanometers. Within this span, subregions such as the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared each have characteristic transmission windows and typical detectors. The precise limits are often adjusted to suit specific research needs or measurement goals.

Within the spektralregion, spectral lines, bands, and continua yield information about composition, structure, temperature, and concentration. The region is surveyed using spectrometers and imaging spectrometers, with resolution, calibration, and signal-to-noise requirements tailored to the target. Data products typically include absorbance or reflectance spectra, as well as derived indices and maps.

Applications of the spektralregion span astronomy, atmospheric science, geology and mineralogy, polymer chemistry, and biomedical imaging. In each field, the region is chosen to maximize contrast between features of interest and to enable quantitative analysis of materials or processes.
