Southville

Southville is a mid-sized city in Meridian State, Northvale. It lies on the southern bank of the South River and is part of the Sunny Bay metropolitan area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 41,800.

The city covers 34 square kilometers and features a temperate climate, with warm summers and cool winters.

Founded in 1823 as a trading post, Southville grew with the arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century and was incorporated as a city in 1895. It underwent industrial diversification after World War II and experienced suburban growth in the late 20th century.

Southville operates under a mayor-council government. The city council comprises eight members elected from districts and a mayor elected at-large. City services include police, fire, public works, and utilities.

The population is diverse, with a mix of long-time residents and newer arrivals. The median age is around 38, and the city has a broad distribution of age groups.

The economy centers on services, light manufacturing, logistics, and education. The Southville Industrial Park houses several light manufacturers and distribution firms; the port along the South River supports freight activity.

Education is provided by Southville Public Schools, including five elementary schools, two middle schools, and a regional high school. Southville University, the shared campus of two state colleges, offers programs in engineering, business, and health sciences.

Cultural life centers on the Southville Performing Arts Center and Riverside Park. The city is served by a regional rail line and a network of bus routes; Interstate 5 runs to the north, connecting to neighboring cities.
