Southampton

Southampton is a city and port on the south coast of England, in Hampshire. Located at the northern edge of the Solent and at the mouth of the River Itchen, it is a major centre for maritime activity, higher education, and culture. The city has a population of around 250,000 and is a transport hub for southern England, with ferries to the Isle of Wight and continental Europe, cruise ships, an international airport, and rail links to London.

Southampton has a long maritime history dating back to the Middle Ages. Its harbour facilitated trade, shipbuilding, and naval activity.
