Solubilityrelated refers to the properties, phenomena, and considerations associated with solubility, the extent to which a solute can dissolve in a solvent to form a homogeneous solution at equilibrium. It distinguishes between solubility (the amount that can dissolve) and dissolution rate (how quickly it dissolves). Solubility arises from interactions between solute and solvent, including ionic, hydrogen bonding, and dipole interactions, and is influenced by temperature, pressure (notably for gases), pH, and the presence of other dissolved species.

Several factors govern solubility. Temperature often raises the solubility of solids in liquids but lowers the solubility of many gases; pressure mainly affects gas solubility in liquids. Solubility also depends on solvent polarity and the nature of solute—ionic compounds typically rely on lattice hydration and ion-dipole interactions, while molecular solutes depend on dipole, hydrogen-bonding, and dispersion forces. The presence of similar ions or molecules, known as the common ion effect, and the formation of complexes can alter apparent solubility.

Solubility is commonly expressed in units such as grams of solute per 100 milliliters of solvent, moles per liter (molarity) at saturation, or mole fraction. For sparingly soluble salts, the solubility product constant (Ksp) describes the equilibrium between solid and dissolved ions. Henry's law provides a framework for gas solubility in liquids.
