SollTemperatur

SollTemperatur is the target value for temperature in a control system. It defines the temperature that the system aims to maintain under given conditions and is commonly referred to in English as the setpoint temperature.

In a closed-loop control, the controller continuously measures the actual temperature, known as Isttemperatur, and compares it with the SollTemperatur. The resulting error drives actuators such as heaters, coolers, fans, or valves to adjust the process toward the setpoint. This basic feedback principle underpins many heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) applications as well as industrial processes.

Applications of SollTemperatur include building climate control, industrial process regulation, automotive climate systems, greenhouse farming, and data centers. Setpoints can be fixed or dynamic. Time-based schedules, occupancy, external weather, and energy-efficiency goals may cause the SollTemperatur to change over time. Common control methods range from simple on/off control to proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers and model predictive control, implemented through thermostats, building automation systems, or dedicated process controllers.

Practical considerations influence the choice of setpoints. Sensor accuracy, response lag, and deadbands affect stability and perceived comfort. Poorly chosen setpoints can lead to wasted energy or insufficient comfort.
