Sokkatidae
Sokkatidae is a fictional family of aquatic creatures that inhabit the deep ocean trenches of the planet Xylos. These beings are characterized by their bioluminescent bodies, which emit a soft, pulsating blue light. Their primary form of locomotion is through a series of undulating fins that run along their entire ventral side, allowing for graceful movement through the dense water. Sokkatidae possess large, multifaceted eyes that are highly adapted to the low-light conditions of their environment, enabling them to detect even the faintest traces of light. Their diet consists mainly of planktonic organisms and small, phosphorescent invertebrates that drift in the currents. Reproduction in Sokkatidae is believed to be external, with individuals releasing gametes into the water column during specific lunar cycles of Xylos. Little is known about their social structure, but observations suggest they are solitary creatures, only congregating briefly for mating. Their lifespan is estimated to be around 50 Xylosian years. The Sokkatidae play a crucial role in the Xylosian abyssal ecosystem, serving as both prey for larger predators and as a source of light in the otherwise absolute darkness. Further research is ongoing to fully understand the biology and ecological significance of this unique species.
