Slotokat

Slotokat is a term used in Hungarian to refer to discrete slots, spaces, or positions that can be reserved or allocated. Borrowed from the English word slot, it appears across several technical and everyday domains to describe fixed openings or capacities.

In scheduling and planning, a slot denotes a defined time interval assigned for a task, meeting, or service. Slot management involves selecting non-overlapping intervals, enforcing availability rules, and sometimes optimizing for throughput or fairness.

In computing and hardware, a slot is a physical or logical receptacle that accepts an expansion card, memory module, or other add-on. Examples include RAM slots, PCI/PCIe slots, and memory slots on a motherboard. Logical slots are used in software systems to designate placeholders or channels for data, such as user slots in a virtualized environment or response slots in messaging protocols.

In telecommunications and broadcasting, a time-division multiplexing frame is divided into slots that allocate fixed bandwidth to different channels or signals. Advertising or program scheduling likewise uses slots to determine when a show, commercial, or segment appears.

In gaming and entertainment, the term is also used for slots in casino games or arcade machines, where each slot represents a separate game instance or reel arrangement.
