In Lithuanian technical vocabulary, the term refers to guide systems that allow a moving carriage to slide along a fixed axis with low friction and good positional accuracy. They are essential in equipment requiring precise linear travel, from automated manufacturing lines to consumer devices.

A typical slankstinis guide comprises a fixed track (rail) and a moving block (carriage or slider). Contact is provided by rolling elements such as balls or rollers in a recirculating path, or by plain bearings in non-rolling variants.
